Revolut Rolls Out EURR Stablecoin in Three European Markets

Revolut began distributing EURR, a euro-backed stablecoin issued by Bridge Building S.A., to selected customers in Denmark, Poland, and Portugal. Bridge is a Luxembourg-authorized electronic money institution owned by Stripe. Wider rollout across the European Economic Area is planned for later in 2026.

Update. This story has been superseded by later reporting: Revolut launches euro stablecoin EURR with Bridge as regulated issuer.
Editor's note. This story was updated in place with a better-sourced account of the same event, carrying 2 sources against the original 1. The earlier version was headlined “Revolut Starts EURR Rollout With Bridge as Regulated Issuer”. The URL and publication time are unchanged.

Revolut began rolling out EURR, a euro-backed stablecoin, to selected customers in Denmark, Poland, and Portugal around Aug. 20, with phased expansion starting Aug. 26, according to The Defiant and Crypto Briefing. Bridge Building S.A., a Luxembourg-authorized electronic money institution owned by Stripe, serves as the legal issuer and redemption counterparty. Revolut Digital Assets Europe Ltd acts as the offeror and admits EURR to trading on its Revolut X platform. Wider rollout across the European Economic Area is expected later in 2026. The token is fully collateralized by euro cash held in segregated accounts at regulated credit institutions. Bridge's reserve page states funds received for EURR are safeguarded in such accounts or invested in eligible, highly liquid euro-denominated instruments. Tokenholders have the right to redeem EURR at par against Bridge at any time, subject to applicable terms and redemption process. ERUR lives on Ethereum and Polygon, with plans to expand to additional chains. Users can move between euros, crypto, external wallets, and supported blockchain networks. Stablecoins tied to other currencies are in development. ERUR is classified as an e-money token under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. Bridge is authorized as an electronic money institution in Luxembourg by the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier, with active listing as a crypto-asset service provider holding custody, exchange, and transfer permissions as of June 29, 2026. The rollout occurs alongside Revolut's phase-out of Tether's USDT across the EEA and Switzerland, effective Aug. 31. According to Crypto Briefing, the USDT removal is driven by MiCA compliance requirements that Tether has struggled to meet in the European market. For context, Circle Internet Financial Europe SAS issues EURC under an electronic money institution license from France's Autorité de Contrôle Prudentiel et de Résolution. Circle reported 394.5 million EURC in circulation as of Aug. 24, identified on Avalanche, Base, Cronos, Ethereum, Solana, Stellar, and World Chain. The entire euro stablecoin market is estimated between 673 million and 826 million by Crypto Briefing.

The key fact

As of Aug. 28, approximately 250,961 EURR tokens are in circulation, fully backed by euro cash deposits in segregated accounts at regulated credit institutions.

The Brief

EURR's 250,961-token circulation against 2 million eligible users suggests adoption remains nascent despite Revolut's retail distribution advantage and 16 million existing crypto users. Watch for the timing and geographic scope of the announced later-2026 EEA rollout, and whether transfer volume and active addresses accelerate as access widens. A material lag in adoption relative to the user base would signal limited retail demand for onchain euros even when offered through a trusted fintech interface.
