How we make money
This desk earns affiliate commission from three companies. Here is the complete list, what we earn on, and the rules about where those links are allowed to appear. We publish the rules because a policy nobody can read is not a policy anyone can hold us to.
Who we earn from
LedgerHardware wallets
We earn a commission when someone buys through our link to Ledger's own store. It costs the reader nothing extra.
Where the links appear: Cold storage, explained and Counterfeit hardware wallets
TrezorHardware wallets
We earn a commission when someone buys through our link to Trezor's own store. It costs the reader nothing extra. Trezor pays us more than Ledger does, which is exactly why our recommendation between them is written to follow what suits the reader and never the rate.
Where the links appear: Cold storage, explained and Counterfeit hardware wallets
CoinLedgerCrypto tax software
We earn a commission on subscriptions started through our link. The code CRYPTOTAX10 gets the reader a discount, and we earn on those purchases too, so you should know the code is not a favour without a cost to us either way.
Where the links appear: Crypto and tax, explained
That is the entire list. We take no payment for coverage, we run no sponsored posts, and nobody pays to be written about or left out.
Where commercial links may appear, and where they may not
The site has three kinds of pages and the rules are different for each.
- News coverage never carries affiliate links. The front page, Latest, every story, the daily Editions and the RSS feed are clean. Nothing we earn from can influence what gets reported or how.
- Data boards never carry commercial calls to action. Whale Watch, Market Pulse and The Chart Master may link to an explainer when it genuinely helps, but they carry no buy buttons and no commission language.
- Commercial links appear only in disclosed evergreen explainers. Those pages say plainly, above the first link, that we earn a commission.
- No commercial link ever appears beside coverage of a company's failure. Exchange bankruptcies, hacks and wind-downs are the highest-earning pages a crypto site can publish. They are permanently off limits to us. A desk that makes money from your fear has stopped being a desk.
How we decide what to recommend
By what fits the reader, never by what pays more. Where two products both pay us, the reasoning for choosing between them is written into the page itself so you can check it against your own situation and disagree with it.
Every explainer also has to pass one test before it ships: delete the commercial section, and the page has to still work as an article. If it does not, it was an advertisement wearing an article's clothes and it does not get published.
Holding us to it
If you find a link on this site that breaks any of the rules above, tell us at desk@gocheckmycrypto.com and we will take it down. Corrections to this page are handled the same way as corrections to our reporting; see standards and corrections.
Affiliate commission never makes anything on this site advice. Explainers describe how things work; they are not guidance about your particular holdings.
